I had been thinking about the corruption of Reform and Conservative Judaism, by rabbis forcing their leftist politics into our religion and turning services into political movements, for years but October 7th exposed just what a terrible mistake that had been and they needed a sharp calling out. The article I wrote about it took me a month to write. I wanted it to be perfect. You can read it here: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2024/01/22/leave_the_pews_150355.html
Right at the top I made the point that a well-intentioned Facebook group, Mothers Against College Antisemitism, or MACA, formed in the wake of the post-Oct 7, pro-Hamas frenzy on college campuses, was suffering from the same problem of politics: their allies hate them and their only friends are the conservatives they so loathe.
The founder of MACA, Elizabeth Rand, did…not take it well.
This totally sane person then followed it up with a direct message to me:
She then blocked me from the group but several people messaged me to tell me that the comments she was receiving on her post were overwhelmingly in favor of what I had written so she had to ultimately delete it.
It’s not rocket science. Years of melding Reform and Conservative Judaism to leftism, only to find that that leftists wouldn’t spit on Jews if we were on fire, has been a disaster. It has moved Jews away from Judaism and it has functionally destroyed these Jewish movements. If you’re a Jew still sitting in the pews and funding the services that push political nonsense in place of torah, it’s time to go. Stop paying for a rabbi’s 7th grade musings on climate change and stop funding displays of “banned” books that aren’t actually banned. There were lessons in the horrific attacks of October 7th of how Jews should move forward. Let’s learn them now. And I wish the new MACA Foundation, and their totally emotionally healthy leader, all the very best.
On the Karol Markowicz Show today, I have our first international guest, Annika Rothstein, live (well, recorded live) from Ghana. Annika is CEO of Nomad Ghana and author of the book Exile. Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-the-karol-markowicz-show-124699042/episode/the-karol-markowicz-show-personal-stories-146296655/
The other interviews I’ve done since I last sent an update:
Radio host Kevin McCullough and I talked yoga and how he likes to use the word “winsome” and I’m not sure what that means.
Spencer Klavan, author of the book How to Save the West, and I discussed how to form relationships.
Dana Loesch and I talked her being “the gun girl” and how she feels about that.
Dana and I also talked social media and how important it is to take breaks.
Miranda Devine and I got into normalizing drug use.
And Emma-Jo Morris and I discussed how she married the very first person she met on a dating app and how, apparently, Quebec doesn’t like being called Canada.
My favorite monologue of the bunch is this one, about my casual Russian way of talking about death and how my family really doesn’t appreciate it.
I like to have range, especially in my writing, so I really enjoyed writing this piece, up on Fox News, defending the teens and tweens and their skincare routines.
At the New York Post, I wrote about my family’s process of coming to the US as refugees from the Soviet Union and how there simply isn’t anything resembling a process happening on our border today.
Finally, I’m so excited to announce I will be a Pulliam Fellow at Hillsdale College this March! I will be teaching a 1-credit class and delivering a public lecture so if you're in the area, please attend.
Thank you, as always, for reading, watching and listening!
